Canal Winchester Lacrosse Association
The Canal Winchester Lacrosse Association (CWLA) was founded in the Summer of 2017 to provide students in and around Canal Winchester the opportunity to play lacrosse at the Middle and High School Levels. CWLA is Incorporated with the State of Ohio and is a non-profit 501(c)(3) per the U.S Internal Revenue Service guidelines.
In the Spring of 2015 the Canal Winchester Joint Recreation District (CWJRD) introduced Lacrosse to the City. The first season had only twelve participants who focused on learning the basics over the course of four one-hour clinics. At the start of the Spring 2107 season over 75 players were enrolled in the City’s recreation program which had grown to include K-2 Learn to Play, two 3rd/4th Grade Co-ed Teams, one Co-ed 5th/6th Grade team and an informal 7th/8th Grade program. The CWLA will operate separately but in partnership with the CWJRD as there is no mechanism within the existing JRD structure for hiring coaches and fundraising; two essential parts of a successful club sport.
CWLA’s goal is to develop student athletes into successful lacrosse players. Like the City’s youth program, we will put an emphasis on sportsmanship, fair play, fun and being inclusive of all participants.
CWLA is a proud member of USA Lacrosse.
